A category built on wrapping materials
For generations, most hand-rolled and manufactured smoking products have shared one basic idea: a filling held in shape by a thin outer wrapper. The wrapper determines how the product is formed, how it looks, and what the product is called. Understanding that history helps explain why a paperless joint is a genuinely different design direction.
Joints & rolling papers
A traditional joint, or cannabis joint, is flower rolled inside thin rolling papers. Rolling papers have been produced commercially since at least the 1800s, and over time they have been made from wood pulp, rice, flax and hemp fibers in many sizes and thicknesses.
Prerolls & paper cones
Prerolls (also written pre-rolls) are joints that are rolled in advance, often by filling pre-formed paper cones. The format brought consistency and convenience, but it still relies on a paper wrapper, usually paired with a paper crutch or filter tip.
Blunts & leaf wraps
A blunt is cannabis rolled in a cigar wrapper or tobacco-leaf wrap rather than rolling paper. The name is commonly traced to inexpensive cigars that were emptied and re-rolled. The defining feature of a blunt is, again, its wrapper.
Cigarettes & cigarette paper
Cigarettes are tobacco products wrapped in cigarette paper, typically with an attached filter. Mechanized production in the late 19th century made the paper-wrapped cylinder one of the most familiar product shapes in the world.
Rolling paper alternatives: a new wrapper, not no wrapper
Interest in rolling paper alternatives has grown steadily. Hemp papers, rice papers, unbleached papers, clear cellulose wraps, palm-leaf and other natural-leaf wraps, and flavored or hemp blunt wraps all offer a different experience or appearance.
Nearly all of these options share the same underlying approach: they replace one wrapping material with another. The joint, preroll or blunt is still defined by the layer that surrounds it.
PURE explores a different design approach. Rather than proposing another type of rolling paper or wrap, the PURE concept investigates a paperless joint, a joint-style form in which the conventional paper wrapper is removed from the format and the flower itself becomes the visible outer surface.
Glass tips: from accessory to signature component
Glass tips are an established smoking accessory. They are typically used as reusable mouthpieces in place of the rolled paper crutch or filter tip found on many joints and prerolls, and they are often valued for their clean, durable finish.
In most cases a glass tip is an add-on, something that sits alongside rolling papers and other smoking accessories. In the PURE concept, the custom glass tip is an integral part of the design itself. Its clear construction frames the paperless body and keeps the gold DD Signature mark visible, giving the invention a recognizable look.

PURE: a paperless smoking-product invention
PURE Paperless Joints is an original smoking-product invention concept developed by PURE Prerolls. It brings together three ideas: a paperless joint format, a custom glass tip designed as part of the product, and a consistent premium identity built around the gold PURE and DD Signature mark.
The concept is documented through original prototype photography and is presented in two visual directions, PURE and CAMO. Future development may explore materials, dimensions, manufacturing methods, packaging and applicable regulatory requirements.
